Yö Fest vol 3.5: IDA NISONEN - Needle and Thread & Natural Beauty

The performances of multidisciplinary-artist Ida Nisonen deal with the limits set for women from the outside, which aim to control a woman's body and a woman's social behavior. The Needle and Thread performance includes a series of three scenes. In the scenes, different tools lead to activities that remotely resemble a woman's work, but the work image appears to be somehow distorted. The Natural Beauty performance, on the other hand, borrows functional elements, e.g. about the gua sha-beauty-comb-trend. While preparing the show, Nisonen says that she was particularly fond of Maya Deren's (1917 - 1961) experimental film At Land (1944), from which she got the inspiration to prepare this performance.

Ida Nisonen, Motherartist (b.1981 Kangasala) is a multidisciplinary artist, art educator and mother of three children. Nisonen lives and works in Kerava. Nisonen works with photography-, video-, installation- and performance art. Nisonen's works often deal with the themes of girlhood, femininity and motherhood, using self-image. Nisonen graduated as a photographer from the Design Institute of Lahti University of Applied Sciences and as a Master of Philosophy from the University of Jyväskylä.
