La Gran Diversion Orchestra will take the audience back to the time when Cuban music conquered European nightclubs and cabarets. The nine-piece orchestra will be led by Cuba’s leading pianist Roberto Fonseca. Fonseca’s love of his hometown Havana and its buzzing 1920s music scene led him to the hit styles of the golden age – mambo, rumba and bolero. The album La Gran Diversion was released in September 2023 and has been praised for bringing Cuban musical tradition to life in a fresh way.
Fonseca, who has also been nominated for a Grammy, is known for his work at the Buena Vista Social Club and for more than 400 concerts with the legendary Omara Portuondo. Fonseca, who has since gone on to success in the jazz world, has released nine solo albums.
La Gran Diversion Orchestra’s European tour will take a one-concert stop at Savoy Theatre on 20 April. Come and enjoy the rhythms of Cuban music!
Duration approx. 2 h with intermission.
The stalls form a designated alcohol serving area for adults age 18 and older. The balcony is for people of all ages, no alcohol served.
