Opening of Christmas in Helsinki 2024

The Christmas season traditionally begins in Helsinki with the opening of the Christmas Street, which takes place this year on 23 November.

The Christmas season traditionally begins in Helsinki with the opening of the Christmas Street, which takes place this year on 23 November. 

This Year, the event expands and becomes Finland's largest Christmas season opening.

The Christmas Parade route has been renewed: on November 23rd at 16.00, a joyful and light-filled procession will start from Senate Square, move along Aleksanterinkatu, continue to Mannerheimintie, and end at Narinkkatori Square. For the first time, Narinkkatori Square will host a two-day Christmas Carnival featuring Santa Claus. The carnival's free carousel rides will delight the youngest family members on November 23rd  12.00-19.00 and November 24th 12.00-18.00.

The iconic Christmas lights of Aleksanterinkatu, a landmark of the season's opening, will be lit for the 76th time this year. The lights will be switched on as the parade begins on Saturday, November 23rd at 16.00.
