Opening of Christmas in Helsinki 2023

The Christmas season traditionally begins in Helsinki with the opening of the Christmas Street, which takes place this year on 18 November. 

The opening ceremonies include the eagerly anticipated switching on of the Christmas lights along Aleksanterinkatu at 16.00, that is one of the oldest Christmas traditions since 1949.

The Christmas parade will turn on the lights on Aleksanterinkatu street approx. at 16.00
*numerous cheerful characters, animals and dance groups take part in the parade
* Mayor Vartiainen leads the parade with a group of elves, Father Christmas and his wife
* TsigaBoom! group and circus wagons by Tivoli Sariola and Sirkus Finlandia amuse with funny hospital clowns
* Numerous groups of dogs delight the audience including almost one hundred dogs
* Enchanting dancers by Tanssipiste Loiste, Papagaio samba group and WeDrum as One set thepace for the parade
* In addition to the vintage fire engines, theTokmanni's Christmas-red truck is delighting the smallest future truck drivers in the family
