Open air dance of our dreams on Kansalaistori Square: Dallapé

Alvar Aallon kuja 1, 00100 Helsinki
Kansalaistori Square

Unique event will bring a genuine open air dance atmosphere to the middle of Helsinki!

Wednesday 10 May will be the national Exercise Day of Your Dreams, which is a trial and pop-up day for all kinds of physical activity. City of Helsinki Sports Services will take part in the event by holding a free-of-charge event entitled Unelmien lavatanssit (‘Open Air Dance of Our Dreams’), starring the legendary Dallapé orchestra. This unique event will bring a genuine open air dance atmosphere to the middle of Helsinki! Helsinki residents of all ages are welcome to come dance with us or just take in the atmosphere with a low threshold.

Among other things, the programme of the event also features an exercise dance session, during which participants will dance in different styles in the open air dance atmosphere with easy steps, raising their heart rate. Central Library Oodi will provide light balance and mobility exercise sessions accompanied by recitation.

Founded in 1925, Dallapé is the oldest continuously active entertainment orchestra in Europe and the author of innumerable evergreen classics. In 2010, the position of leader and lead singer was taken by Juha Hostikka, who has studied singing at Sibelius Academy and the saxophone at Pop & Jazz Conservatory in Oulunkylä. With Hostikka at the helm, the Dallapé orchestra has been restored back to its 1930s’ shine. Carefully crafted entertainment orchestra arrangements and swinging performances continue to be Dallapé’s trademarks, and this level of quality is maintained by 11 first-class professional musicians in the current lineup.
