New Légende

Founded in 2011, New Légende is a Beninese band founded by singer-songwriter Julie la Légende.
Combining traditional rhythms and instruments with more modern styles, New Légende deals with themes that touch human life, from difficulties to joys. The band's frontwoman Julie la Légende has performed several times both in Finland (including the Meri Nii Suuri play at the National Theater) and at the Finnish-African cultural center Villa Karolla in Grand-Popo, Benin. With her art, Julie especially wants to show her respect to women, as well as those who have already passed away.

The Beninese band conveys a message of determination and peace, which is told through warmth and togetherness. As in the West African tradition in general, the border between music and dance is blurred in the band's art, as they complement each other organically.

 The band's drummers are Maurras Solevi Dokoui, Rock Guildas Boco and Moïse Assogba, and the dancers are Jean-Baptiste Adadji and Maurice le Binguis.
