In their music, the vocal ensemble Leina combines Eino Leino’s enthralling poems with Sabrina Ljungberg’s thrilling musical language.
In addition to a cappella music, the ensemble’s performances include live electronics and vocal improvisation, which transport the listeners from one mood to another.
The band of music professionals founded in 2022 by Sabrina Ljungberg consists of Eeva Helemaa-Ryymi, Jutta-Maija Joelsson, Jenna Korhonen, Jenni Liikaoja and Milla Nissinen. In 2023, LEINA was one of the finalists of the Tampere Vocal Music Festival’s Contest for Vocal Ensembles.
LEINA’s music resonates with dialogues of eternity and the present, the sensitive and the crude and dark and bright tones. The name of the ensemble is an old derivation from the Finnish word “leino”, which means sadness and sorrow. At LEINA’s concert, you will hear many beloved poems, such as Nocturne and Omenankukat, as new, fresh compositions.
