Kyiv Grand Ballet: Swan Lake

Ukrainian ballet company Kyiv Grand Ballet is performing the beloved ballet performances Swan Lake at Finlandia Hall in February.

A classic ballet composed by Pyotr Tchaikovsky  is still more than a century after its composition the world's most danced - and, according to many, the most beautiful ballet. 

The Swan Lake tells the story of love and the eternal battle between light and darkness, which is symbolized by the ballet's black and white swan. 

The Swan Lake contains all the rich elements of 19th century romantic ballet and is considered the pinnacle of classical dance as it is known today. 

The role of Odette-Odile is alternated between the Japanese Mie Nagasava, who graduated from the Vaganova Ballet Academy, one of the most prestigious in the world, and the Argentinian Ana Sophia Scheller, who was also a principal dancer of the New York City Ballet. 

Ukrainian Viktor Tomashek, who has won numerous international awards and graduated from the famous Kyiv State Choreographic School, will be seen as Prince Siegfrid. 

The dancers of the Kyiv Grand Ballet charm with their subtle technique, musicality and lightness of dance. Fine costumes and wonderful scenery complete the ballet enjoyment.
