Kanteletupa - a communal time travel to the origins of music
Kanteletupa -concert is an experimental event where the audience has the opportunity to participate in building up the music on the kanteles. You can also come just to listen.
The basis of the music is in the aesthetics of the ancient runosong culture in which the music is not songs, but a long-lasting continuum. Timbres and sounds form a varying sound field whose events change with the participants. The participants are guided to concentrate, listen and follow the effect of their own actions on the whole.
The concert is led by Arja Kastinen (DMus), Pauliina Syrjälä (DMus), and Eva Väljaots (MMus).
At the beginning of the concert, there is a short introduction, where new participants are also instructed about the course of the concert. There are some loan kanteles for those who don’t have the instrument.
The concert will be recorded and the participants of the event can give written feedback about their experience. The material from both the Kanteletupa workshops and the concert will be used as part of the Creative Dialogue research project.
The concert is part of this year’s festivities of 40 years of folk music education at the Sibelius Academy.
