We welcome you to the first episode of Helsinki Open Waves Radio season 3! We are Exploring the possibilities of foreign-born musicians in Finland in the wonderful company of Violeta Simjanovska.

The multiplicity of a musician’s role is highlighted throughout our series. In this episode we try to map the entrepreneurial side of artists with the head of the arts management department of Sibelius academy.

Dr. Violeta Simjanovska has more than 25 years academic and working experience gained in the field of arts management and cultural policy in Europe and worldwide. Starting as an Electrical engineer, than music festival manager, also as a general manager of a Performing Arts Research Center, leading many international projects, working also as an expert, lecturer, professor and researcher in the past 20 years, that was the way of her transformation that took place in her personal interests and work focus.

At the moment, she is working as a Head of arts management department and Lecturer in Arts Management at Sibelius Academy, University of Arts Helsinki. She is also teaching as a visiting professor at University of Arts in Belgrade, Goldsmith University in London. In addition, she is working as a consultant and cultural expert on few international programmes, such as UNESCO, Creative Europe, British Council. She has published more than 50 articles, books and research reports in field of cultural policy, cultural management and creative industries.

Helsinki Open Waves radio, Caisa and the Global Music Department of Sibelius Academy present HOW radio: Global Club Nights, a radio discussion series focusing on the music industry in Finland from the perspective on intercultural collaboration.

The discussions take into consideration both the part of the musician and the business side, focusing on diversity in a neutral, safe space.

The language of discussion is English.
