The musical collective later to be named Helsinki Klezmer Kapelye (HKK) started to form during a jam session of the first Helsinki Klezmer Festival held in 2000.
In 2003, the Finnish Klezmer Association was founded to nurture klezmer traditions in Finland by organizing sessions, concerts and workshops.
HKK was officially founded in 2006 and has since then acted as the house band for the monthly klezmer jams in Helsinki. Besides the jams, HKK has given countless concerts on many stages in Finland, Sweden, Russia and Latvia.
More of an open collective than a fixed group, HKK is constantly inviting and inspiring new musicians to play klezmer together. Over the years, HKK and the jam sessions have been a meeting place for over sixty musicians from diverse backgrounds and many countries, including Turkey, Greece, Germany, UK, USA, Denmark, France, Israel, Sweden, Russia and Finland.
Helsinki Klezmer Kapelye released their first album this spring.
