Helsinki Chamber Choir: Harmonian henki – choral works by Fredrik Pacius for mixed and female choir
German-born Fredrik Pacius is best known as the composer of the Finnish national anthem and is also remembered as the composer of the first Finnish opera. A dominating figure in mid-19th-century Helsinki musical life, he founded the oldest currently active Finnish choir – Akademiska Sång-Sällskapet (nowadays Sångföreningen) – in 1838.
This programme presents his complete a cappella works for mixed and female choir, including works in Swedish, German and Finnish, giving a fascinating insight into the roots of the Finnish musical tradition.
