Humorous, even grotesque associations and familiar objects merge in characters playing on a kitchen table.
For the exhibition at MUU Helsinki Contemporary Art Centre, the artist has created a loop symphony for a bicycle pump, spaghetti, toilet paper and other household items. The viewer is treated to unintentional gestures and uncontrollable noises emitted by a xylophonist, a flutist and a dancer spinning around its belly button.
Hannele Romppanen creates camera-based performances. Her works explore the corporeality of the ageing body, the particularities of ageing in a woman, and the associated culture of invisibility in our society. Romppanen has in her previous works performed as a trio stridently tooting its own horn and a cook ladling hot flashes.
