CULTUREELS – Ethnographic Film Collective will present five South Asian documentaries in a free screening on the 17th of August as part of the Night of the Arts and Planet Suvilahti programme.
The event begins a series of film screenings which will feature twenty powerful documentary films from Bangladesh, India, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

The entire programme has been curated by Film Southasia, a festival of South Asian documentaries, and the screening is made possible by ParVISMETH, a group of researchers and practitioners in the University of Helsinki who promote use of visual methods for social action and social change.

There will be a panel discussion on politics of curation as part of the inaugural night, which will initiate a larger conversation on the idea of co-curation and challenges power structures embedded in the politics of curation. It will feature our South Asia collaborators in conversation with cultural producers and academics from Finland.

Programme:
19:05 Gaine (Nepal, 2019)
19:40 The Secret Life (Gilgit-Baltistan, 2021)
20:05 Gurkha Girl (Nepal, 2021)
20:50 The Heartbroken Lover (India, 2021)
