Giving the statue Manta her cap is one of the most important May Day traditions in Helsinki.
The cap ceremony is on May Day Eve 30 April at 18:00.
This year, the ceremony will be managed by the Aalto University Student Union and its own cap team, Team Manta. The interdisciplinary team includes Aalto University students who have been planning the cap ceremony for six months. The cap ceremony also involves washing the statue. This will be done before Manta receives her cap. The students’ unions in the Helsinki Metropolitan Area assume the responsibility for the cap ceremony in alternate years.
The surroundings of the Market Square and the Esplanadi streets will be closed to all motor traffic on May Day Eve 30 April at 15:00–20:00.
