Tomi Olavi is a musician and producer from Helsinki who became fascinated by Afro-Brazilian music through his hobby of capoeira.
First album "Helsinki - Florianópolis" is based on the first trip to Brazil made just before the the pandemic. The album consists of arrangements made for guitar, kantele and accordion, which is composed around old capoeira songs.
When performing as a duo, Tomi Olavi's vocals and nylon string guitar provide a counterweight Cristian Pereira's Afro-Brazilian only two sounds monolingual berimbau. The voice forms beautiful harmonies with the guitar, sloppy rhythms and catchy jam shares.
The duo also specializes in interpreting J. Karjalainen's productions with his Finnish-Brazilian touch on acoustic guitar and berimbau.
Cristian also works as a capoeira teacher, so acrobatic and spectacular capoeira movements at this duo's concerts is totally possible to happen also.
