Boombox (since 2004) is a cult Ukrainian rock and pop band, well-known and loved all over the world.
Since the start of the illegal Russian invasion into Ukraine all the band members joined the Ukrainian Territorial Defense Forces. Frontman Andrij Khlyvnyuk recorded an a cappella version of the Ukrainian folk song "Oh, the Red Viburnum in the Meadow" ("Oj u luzi chervona kalyna") in Kyiv while dressed in a military uniform and posted it on social media - the video became a historic encapsulation of Ukrainian artists' unity in mobilizing the country's spirit. Pink Floyd, led by David Gilmour, wrote and recorded the single "Hey, Hey, Rise Up!", incorporating Khlyvnyuk's recorded vocals, and released it in April 2022 in support of Ukraine.
If you stand along with Ukraine, if the hearty, warm, endlessly melodic tunes are your thing - come and witness the only show of Ukrainian superstars in Helsinki!
Message from Boombox:
In the legendary film of the Ukrainian director and actor Leonid Bykov "Only old men are going into battle", the main character, Captain Tytarenko, nicknamed "Maestro", utters a legendary phrase: "Who said that we should leave aside songs during the war?"
For us - Boombox Family - these words are a guide to action. The full-scale war started on February 24, 2022 by the Russian invaders forced us to forget "who we are and where we are from" for a long time. Engagement in territorial defense, police service, volunteering - at some point, there was simply no time left for music. The very thought of listening to anything, let alone playing, seemed seditious.
But then... You carefully turn on your favorite song. And another one after. And more. And it helps.
If you are a long-time fan or if you have just recently discovered the band via "Oj u luzi chervona kalyna" performed by Andrii Khlyvnyuk, come to Boombox’ concert in Helsinki. Your support is very important to us, thank you, friends.
