Ben Vale: Poikien juttuja – A photo exhibition of being a trans man
This exhibition is about men; specifically about trans men who have been designated as girls at birth but who have since then found that they are men.
This exhibition is about men; specifically about trans men who have been designated as girls at birth but who have since then found that they are men.
The photography project has been put together in close cooperation with the models, and the stories in the photos reflect the experiences of the photographer and the models. The purpose of the project is to make the experience of being a trans man visible through the experiences of actual transgender people, thereby dismantling the simplified image of trans men as a homogenous group.
“I am Ben Vale, a Helsinki-based contemporary artist and engineer. My primary work methods are photography and oil painting, but I also sometimes make food sculptures, video pieces and graphic art, for example. I often add small humorous and surrealist elements to my works, which you can also try to find in this exhibition. I am a new creator in the field of art and Poikien juttuja is my first solo exhibition – I hope you like it!”
The exhibition is suitable for all ages.
The exhibition texts and audio descriptions will be available at least in Finnish and English.
