Katja Kettu, an author who has received several awards and has been translated into several languages, visits Kanneltalo to talk about her recent book, The Investigations of a Certain Cat (Otava 2023).

Katja Kettu will be interviewed by author and editor Esa Mäkijärvi.

Katja Kettu's fabulous novel The Investigations of a Certain Cat passes through the ages like a whirlwind, surrendering to wild nature and the call of blood longing for an heir.

The writer suffers a miscarriage and loses the ability to speak and write. From the Investigative Bureau of Heavens, a Detective is sent to the scene, but something goes awry. Soon, in the corner of the room, there appears Cat who starts examining a mysterious diary that once belonged to the Author’s Great Grandmother. When a new life has been lost, the Author turns their gaze to the past and to the age-old words of creation in the old Finnish outskirts. The one who knows them, Great Grandmother, has the power of healers. Is there comfort and meaning in the past when there is no future?

Katja Kettu (b. 1978) is a writer and animation director from Rovaniemi. His breakthrough work, The Midwife (2011), received the Kalevi Jäntti Prize, the Runeberg Prize and the Kiitos kirjasta Medal.
