Seven swimming places in and around the city that are worth experiencing

Hietaranta (also called Hietsu) offers a shallow and safe swimming area and is very popular on hot summer days.

1. Hietaranta beach

Designed by architect Jorma Järvi, the Swimming Stadium was built for the 1940 Olympic Games, which due to the outbreak of war were cancelled. It later went on to host part of the 1952 Helsinki Olympic Games. 
The today popular outdoor swimming pool area consists of four different pools: 50-metre pool, diving pool, children's pool, wading pool.

2. Swimming Stadium

Kumpula outdoor swimming pool was built for the Olympics 1952 and it is the third oldest outdoor swimming pool with tracks in Finland. The pools: 25 m pool, children's pool, wading pool and diving pool. Also a basket ball court, a beach volley court, a playground and a café.

3. Kumpula Outdoor Swimming Pool

The soft and sandy beach lures visitors of all age to enjoy a summer day on on one of the city's most beloved recreational area.

There are cabins, toilets and a café at the beach.

4. Aurinkolahti beach

At Mustikkamaa beach you can find the following services: cabins, toilets, showers, a kiosk and a weightlifting area.

5. Mustikkamaa beach

Mustasaari is a unique summer paradise with a possibility for many activities. Owned by the Helsinki Parish Union, the island is open for everybody and situated fifteen minutes ferryride away from the buzz of the city. The ferry departs from Taivallahti. 

Mustasaari island is especially popular among families with kids. There is a playground, a shallow beach and a lunch café, known for its cinnamon buns (korvapuusti in Finnish). There are also some sheep and bunnies living on the island during the summer months. Programme and events are organized throughout the summer, and a regular moment of prayer is organized daily. 

Dogs are not allowed on the island.

6. Mustasaari island

A place for swimming at a small lake surrounded by a nature reserve in Espoo. There are actually two, one on the southern side and the other one on the northern side.
