1. Ekberg Café
The original Grand Cafe of Helsinki has a traditional bakery and a delicious old-school breakfast buffet. They also usually have a good selection of international newspapers. The bakery next door serves classic pastries and bread fresh from the oven. In the summer, the terrace is a great place for crowd-spotting.

Kosmos, a French and Russian-influenced “Helsinkian kitchen”, is hidden aside in the centre of a lively bar strip. When art was used as currency, many of the paintings on the walls had been painted by local artists. If you want to try something truly unique, go for reindeer tongue or vorschmack.

Just around the corner, you can find the Yrjönkatu swimming hall, which has been a public bath since 1928. Women and men have separate days, so remember to check the right day in advance. Cafe Yrjö upstairs serves cold drinks and great food. Every guest upstairs gets their own private cabin and a bed to recover from a night out or jet lag.
5. Kamppi art of shopping
A big shopping centre is literally in the centre of everything. Easily accessed with metro, bus or tram, it has all major international brands and plenty of restaurants for every taste. Kamppi is a convenient place for last-minute souvenirs or getting something warmer to wear. The biggest Muji in Europe serves excellent ramen.

Hietaniemi has the longest natural beach in the city. It’s a great place to hang out on a hot day and exercise at an outdoor gym. If you are not a fan of beach life, the Hietaniemi cemetery is great for peaceful walks.
