The Song of Steppes is a mix between original and traditional composition embedded in a concert featuring electronic piano, bass, guitar and shan-qobyz (jaw harp). The musical compositions derive their inspiration from Kazakh folk and contemporary music. The main goal of this concert is to represent and make accessible Central Asian, in particular Kazakh, music and art to a Finnish and international audience. The author Aizhan Sultan is telling and giving the Finnish audience the opportunity to discover more the art and history of the Kazakhs. This project is about love and pain, worry and longing for one’s native land. It’s also to overcome a harsh history, to develop an identity despite feeling unrooted and far from home.
