The exhibition guides you to discover the diversity and richness of both the built and green environments of Helsinki. The spectrum of environments on display includes old and new wooden houses, suburban daycare centers, green areas from parks to rocky shores, bustling industrial areas, and monumental concrete architecture.
The exhibition also challenges visitors to reflect on their own relationship with the city and cultural environments. Helsinki residents' thoughts on their favorite places are complemented by expert perspectives, and the exhibition does not shy away from addressing painful and controversial issues emerging in the constantly evolving city.
Places & Hoods encourages Helsinki residents to take pride in their city and explore it with curiosity, both in their own neighborhoods and beyond, with the exhibition's rich program of events offering opportunities to do so.
Places & Hoods – See Helsinki Anew opens on Ascension Day, May 9th. The exhibition is produced by Jere Jäppinen, a researcher at the City Museum, designed by Jonathan Maxwell, and graphically designed by Samppa Ranta. The images, shot by the museum's volunteer photographers, play a central role in the exhibition.
