Maunula Children’s Wednesday
Maunula House celebrates Pride Week with events to match the theme.
A warm-hearted event for the whole family will be held on Wednesday 28 June 2023 at Maunula House Summer Square. The free event will feature a variety of fun activities for children, including magnet and button badge workshops, face painting and a story time by drag artist and poet Maimu Brushwood. Maimu will read stories to the children, together with Olavi the marionette, Ulla the rag doll and Marina the rainbow-coloured stuffed snake. The stories will be about friendship and different emotions.
The event’s drag story time will be suitable for children of all ages.
Drag artist Maimu Brushwood’s real name is Timo Tähkänen. Tähkänen is a trained practical nurse and also has a pedagogical education. He has experience working with people of all ages, both as a practical nurse and as an artist.
Drag is an art form in which a person expresses themselves through dressing up, acting, applying make-up and playing with gender and other roles.
The City of Helsinki is committed to promoting equality, human rights and equity in all its activities, including this event.
