The panel discussion held in the foyer of Malmi Hall addresses phenomena in the suburbs, their current state, and Malmi. What kind of environment is a suburb to grow up in? What are suburbs like in the 2020s and what defines them? How does the area's history influence its identity? Why should one move to Malmi? Why should one not move to Malmi? The panel includes the art director of Helsingin Sanomat and author of the book "Helsinki Graffiti" Tuomas Jääskeläinen, 2009 Refugee of the Year and former National Coalition Party politician Fatbardhe "Fade" Hetemaj, and Annukka Saaristo, a folklorist who has researched rap music and hip hop culture in the suburbs. The discussion will be moderated by Kasper Strömman. The panel will be held in Finnish.
The clothing printer at Areefer's Supply, known as the tailor of the rap artists, can create customized clothes with Areefer's Supply and Malmi Vice designs. Choose the garment and the design you want, print on the textile, put on the garment and enjoy your instantly higher street cred.
At the shared Silk Ink and Malmi Vice walk-in tattoo parlour, you can immortalize Malmi on your body with a design by Malmi Vice. Has someone come up with a Malmi-themed flame tattoo, your favourite graffiti or something completely different? Come, find out and immortalize! For shy people who still want to be included, we also have transfer tattoos. First come, first served.
Kasper Strömman and Mikko Pykäri once introduced podcasts to Finland and made them popular. In the Malmi LIVE podcast, the creators of the Suomen suosituin podcast series shed light on both Malmi as well topics that are completely irrelevant to the area – whatever it is, it’s bound to be interesting.
And if you get hungry, remember that everything is close by in the suburbs! Restaurant Lamassu takes care of your nutrition and provides visitors with delicious snacks at an affordable price, so that you don’t end up becoming hangry.
This free event, organised in cooperation between Malmi Vice and Malmitalo Cultural Centre, celebrates Malmi and showcases the coolest things about suburban and street culture. There are also paid events during the day.
