The film Mummola, directed and written by Tia Kouvo, is a humorous and sharp picture of family relationships.
Film history expert, PhD Harri Kilpi will introduce the film of the evening at 5-5:45 pm. After the introduction, the free screening of the film begins at 6 pm. The autumn 2024 Kino Kuutamo film series explores family dynamics.
Every year at Christmas, sisters Susanna (Ria Kataja) and Helena (Elina Knihtilä) and their parents visit their parents. As usual, Grandpa Lasse (Tom Wentzel) drinks too much, Grandma Ella (Leena Uotila) is worried about everyone and the sisters fall back into their old quarrels. Only the children seem to be having fun. After Christmas, everyone goes their separate ways and to their everyday lives.
Tia Kouvo's bitingly humorous film debut is a tragicomic treatise on family dynamics, loneliness and togetherness — how we try to find a connection but don't always succeed.
Mummola received a total of three Jussi awards at the Jussi Gala in 2024: Film of the Year, Director of the Year and Screenplay of the Year.
“Mummola is a fantastic debut by Tia Kouvo. The film is solid and successful in all respects. The direction is calm and grounded, but the script, which the actors make the most of, is definitely its most significant highlight.“★★★★Jesse Raatikainen / Episodi
