The first artist to be featured in the new series is Jóhan Martin Christiansen (Faroe Islands, 1987, lives in Copenhagen), who studied at the Malmö Art Academy and is active on the Danish and and Faroese contemporary art scenes. He frequently exhibits both sculptures and works on paper, but a recurrent feature of his practice are the reliefs based on casts made in pigmented plaster from fragments of discarded cardboard packaging.

Christiansen’s exhibition ‘Relief’ – another succinct and ambiguous title – brings together a selection of such works from the series Leave Me Breathless (2023–24), most of which have previously been shown at Ole Vinter Room and Danske Grafikeres Hus in Copenhagen. Some of the pieces, displaying various intensities of earthy pink, have been hung in a frieze-like arrangement along the upper edges of the gallery walls.
