Hailing from Austria, the dance group Hungry Sharks blends the aesthetics of Brutalism with the history and social aspects of breakdance. Hungry Sharks presents a social and material mesh that combines architecture and hip hop culture, viewing concrete as both a construction material and a dance floor. The piece crosses the two worlds to form a driving force for Brutalist body theatre, dance and choreography.
The Hungry Sharks Company was founded in 2011 by choreographer Valentin Alfery and producer Dušana Baltić. The group creates long-form dance pieces for international stages to establish street dance styles in the theatre environment.
