This year’s Helsinki Comics Festival will take place at the Merikaapelihalli hall of the Cable Factory at 31 Aug – 1 Sept.

The themes of this year’s festival are British Comics and pop. The festival’s international guests are Dave McKean, Zoe Thorogood, Gareth Brookes, Hamish Steele from Great Britain, Anneli Furmark from Sweden, and Joonas Sildre from Estonia. In addition, many Finnish artists will be presenting their work in panel discussions and exhibitions, among them JP Ahonen, Mika Lietzén, Heikki Rönkkö and Niko-Petteri Niva. The festival artist Reetta Niemensivu has created the visual identity of the festival.

The festival offers a wide array of free activities for both children and adults. The programme includes interviews, panel discussions, competitions, workshops, and exhibitions. Comic books from major publishers will also be for sale, as well as small press publications and zines.

The popular event for self-published comics and zines Helsinki Zine Fest is, once again, a part of Helsinki Comics Festival and will be giving out awards for best small press publication and best online comic.
