"Who Breaks the Brick?"

The film examines the economic and social effects of the Chicago School’s theories (“The Brick”) as implemented in Chile during General Pinochet’s dictatorship (1973 – 1990). The model (along with its results) is explored in retrospect, respectively by a member of the technocratic team originally responsible for its implementation, and by a social activist working in the poorest neighborhoods of a Chilean city. For the former, the challenge is to understand “what went wrong”, and act in accordance. For the latter, there is no need to understand it, but there is an urgency to mitigate its consequences.
