Det blir bara värre – It Just Gets Worse – is a humorous mini-musical about fate and misery, as well as resilience, courage, and solidarity.

The play is based on Runeberg's poem about the farmer Paavo and his wife.

"We can't just sit here and twiddle our thumbs," said Fredrika Runeberg to Johan Ludvig when one distressing piece of news after another reached them from the 2020s in The Olden Days. So, the couple is now making a comeback with a musical written by Fredrika and composed by Pacius, based on Johan Ludvig's poem about Paavo of Saarijärvi.

"Finland was truly miserable in the 1830s when I wrote my masterpiece," Runeberg states. "War, poverty, and climate change."

"So, with the help of those experiences and 193 years of wisdom, we can surely be of service to today's children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren," Fredrika adds. "And the new music adds a bit – how should I put it – more cheer to the whole affair."

"Jawohl," concludes Pacius.
