In honour of the Children’s Rights Week, a workshop day based on the wishes of children will be arranged at Annantalo for the fourth time. The event programme is fully based on wishes expressed by children during last year’s World Children’s Day.
Inspired by the idea of three-year-old Tove, Annantalo will be transformed into a special playground for the duration of the event. There will be jumping on sofas, diving into huts, speeding on cardboard box cars and happy dancing. At the request of the children, bags of sweets will also be available!
All the programme for World Children’s Day is offered free of charge, and no advance registration is required. The event is designed for the whole family.
Programme:
Dance magic workshops
at 13:00 and 14:00
Based on the wishes of Hugo, aged 4, and Lahja, aged 6
Come and experience the joy of dance and movement with traditional Burkina Faso dances! Dancer-choreographer Sibiry Konate will introduce you to the energetic and rhythmic dances. Children and parents are all welcome to dance together!
As many dancers as the assembly hall can accommodate will be admitted to each workshop. The doors will be closed for the duration of the workshop, so please be near the assembly hall doors on time.
Open nonstop workshops – stay for a moment or longer:
Sofa jumping and circus trick track (12:00–15:00)
Based on the wish of Benkku, aged 5
It’s time to restore children’s right to bounce on sofas! Come and join Sirkus Magenta on a sofa jumping and circus trick track! On the fun track, you will have the permission to bounce on sofas and try out different circus tricks with the guidance of circus instructors.
Sofas for jumping will be provided by furniture recycling service Sohvakeskus.
Flying things (12:00–15:00)
Based on the wish of an unknown contributor
In the nonstop workshop, you can build flying creatures and ships from paper and other materials. There will be three different tasks available – you can choose to do one or all of them. All willing builders can participate with their flying things in joint air shows on the second floor at 13:30 and 14:30.
Motoring at a special playground (12:00–15:00)
Based on the wish of Tove, aged 3
Cars will be waiting for you in the depot, with a car track simply inviting you to drive. So get in a cardboard box car and enter the track! There will be a mechanic to service your car and a traffic marshal to indicate the safe direction of travel. Tune in your feet for a dizzying pace, start your muscle motor and get going!
Starry sky of wishes (12:00–15:00)
Based on the wish of an unknown contributor
What do you wish for? What could your wish look like as a star hung in the starry sky?
We will use mixed techniques to craft little wish stars and find a place for them in a shared starry sky in the theatre classroom. You can also choose to relax on cloud pillows in the blue space, listening to the soft tones of a duduk.
Huts and books (12:00–15:00)
Based on the wishes of Daniel and Saku, aged 6
Welcome to dive into atmospheric reading huts in a pop-up library, where immersive books await their readers! You can also borrow books to take home with you. Kamishibai shows to celebrate Children’s Rights Week will take place in this space at 12:45 and 13:45. The library’s World Children’s Day is arranged by the Helsinki City Library.
Fox dance
15:05 in the front yard of Annantalo
Based on the wish of Oliver, aged 5
We will end the day outdoors by joining foxes in a Children Have Rights dance!

Note! The last workshop participants will be admitted at 14:45.
