We are a WWF Green Office

Helsinki Partners achieved the WWF Green Office label in June 2023, marking a significant step in our sustainability journey. The next audit in 2026 will ensure we stay on track and uphold high standards.

Why sustainability matters

Sustainability is woven into the fabric of Helsinki, where innovation, wellbeing, and environmental stewardship come together to create a city where everyone belongs. At Helsinki Partners, we’re proud to reflect these values in everything we do.

Our sustainability roadmap

In 2023, we set clear priorities for meaningful change: climate action, inclusivity, and regenerative practices. These guide our work and form the foundation of our sustainability roadmap for 2025–2027, helping us embed sustainable thinking into every aspect of our operations.

MyHelsinki website’s commitment to sustainability

The new MyHelsinki website fully integrates sustainability into its content, offering readers practical, actionable insights on how to experience Helsinki responsibly.

Highlights of our sustainable content strategy

Sustainable travel tips

Our approach to sustainable travel is now seamlessly integrated across our content. Instead of separate guides, articles like “Getting Around Helsinki” provide practical tips for eco-friendly mobility, from cycling along the city’s stunning waterfronts to using Helsinki’s world-class public transport. This shift simplifies access to sustainable options, allowing visitors to experience the city responsibly while reducing their carbon footprint. Every sustainable step enhances the city’s environmental health while immersing travelers in its natural beauty.

Showcasing responsible businesses

Helsinki is proud to support businesses that champion sustainability. Companies certified through the Sustainable Travel Finland (STF) program are now highlighted across our website, ensuring they gain the recognition they deserve. By choosing these responsible pioneers, visitors can enjoy high-quality services while contributing directly to Helsinki’s mission for sustainable development and eco-conscious innovation.

Neighbourhood focus

Our approach shifts attention beyond the city center, spotlighting the unique stories and offerings of Helsinki’s diverse neighbourhoods. Whether it’s the bohemian charm of Kallio or the coastal tranquility of Lauttasaari, exploring these areas brings visitors closer to the local heartbeat of the city. This expansion spreads the benefits of tourism across Helsinki while offering a richer, more authentic experience. We will continue to build out the content for the neighbourhoods to give a more holistic view of the city.

Seasonal promotion

Helsinki transforms beautifully with the seasons, offering something special no matter the time of year. By highlighting quieter months, we invite visitors to embrace the calm of Helsinki during off-peak times, discovering its charm without the crowds. Imagine cozying up in a seaside sauna in winter, savouring freshly harvested berries in summer, or exploring the city’s forests as they glow with autumn colours.

Cultural icons

Celebrating Helsinki’s cultural treasures is an integral part of our storytelling. Experiences like unwinding in a traditional Finnish sauna, enjoying a cutting-edge design exhibition, or immersing yourself in live performances reflect Finland’s creative and cultural strengths. These icons not only enrich the visitor experience but also sustain Helsinki’s vibrant cultural identity for future generations.

Helsinki happiness

Our redefined focus on Helsinki Happiness highlights the city’s unique blend of sustainability, diversity, and wellbeing. It’s a concept that combines urban dynamism with natural serenity, ensuring every visitor feels at home. By engaging with local communities and eco-conscious initiatives, travellers become part of a movement that supports social and economic welfare while creating joyful, meaningful experiences.

Does the website or company have a sustainability policy?

At Helsinki Partners, sustainability is not just a choice, it’s our mandate. As a company owned by the City of Helsinki, we are committed to contributing to the city’s goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2030 and promoting non-discrimination, equality and human rights in our operations. This commitment goes beyond mere compliance; it reflects our core belief that sustainable practices are essential for the well-being of our community and the planet, reinforcing our dedication to sustainability.

Helsinki wants to be a city at the forefront of sustainable development, now and in the future, and is strongly committed to sustainability – including social, ecological, economic and cultural sustainability. For more information, you can hop over to Helsinki’s Sustainable Development Plan.

Are the products/services featured on the website sustainable?

We promote services, events, and products that aim to be sustainable. We always favour the more sustainable one over the other services. This means highlighting small, local boutiques and enterprises, market halls, antique shops, flea markets and recycling centres as well as companies that are part of some established sustainability programme and/or certificate to enhance our community’s sustainability.

We highlight locally produced, seasonal and ethical produce – and restaurants and cafes that serve them. The companies that have been awarded with the Sustainable Travel Finland label will get more visibility on the new website.

Is the website accessible?

Helsinki Partners is committed to making its websites accessible, in accordance with requirements for accessibility as outlined in the Act on the Provision of Digital Services (306/2019).

The new website is aimed to comply with WCAG 2.0 Standard at AA Level, but the audit will be done after the launch. Visuals like colours contrasts and text are according to standards of accessibility design. We continue to audit and develop the website to further ensure that it is accessible for all users.
